The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Wednesday for the Parks Highway through Broad Pass, where forecasters expect 7 to 15 inches of snow from 1 pm Thursday to 2 pm Friday.

"Travel could be very difficult, with low visibility and rapidly accumulating snow along the Parks Highway," the warning said. Visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less.

Light snow overnight could bring 3 to 6 inches by Thursday morning. The heaviest snow is expected Thursday night into Friday morning, and it could mix with or turn to rain Friday afternoon as temperatures rise above freezing.

Farther south, a winter weather advisory covers the Susitna Valley from around Willow north to the Talkeetna Spur Road from 2 am to 1 pm Thursday. Up to 2 inches of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice could make roads slick for the morning commute, especially bridges and overpasses. Freezing rain is most likely around Willow.

It's the latest rough stretch for the corridor. Troopers warned of difficult driving near Cantwell on Monday, and earlier this month the state urged drivers to avoid the highway from Talkeetna to Cantwell.

Road conditions are at 511.alaska.gov or by calling 511.
