Water is over roads in the Lower Matanuska Valley

Water is running over roadways along and near North Sushana Drive in the Lower Matanuska Valley, where heavy rain has pushed the Little Susitna River up. The Weather Service issued a flood advisory Thursday morning that runs until 8:30 a.m. Friday, with minor flooding expected in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

The warning is the simple one: don't drive through it. Flooded Mat-Su roads have stranded vehicles and forced driver rescues in past high-water events.

It's the newest advisory in a storm that has been working across the region for days. The Susitna Valley has been under flood advisories since Wednesday, with the Yentna River at Lake Creek running a foot above flood stage and water threatening cabins at Anglers Inn and King Point.
