Wasilla woman charged after stabbing pedestrian on hood of moving vehicle
A pedestrian was stabbed in the hand while clinging to the hood of a moving vehicle on Meadow Lakes Loop in Wasilla on July 1, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers were called to a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision around noon. The preliminary investigation found that Annabelle Michael had dislodged the victim from the hood by stabbing their hand, then fled the scene and narrowly missed a head-on collision with a passing vehicle, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Michael faces two domestic violence assault charges: Assault in the Second Degree, a felony under Alaska law covering intentional serious injury or injury caused with a dangerous instrument, and Assault in the Third Degree, which covers recklessly causing injury with a dangerous instrument. Under Alaska statute, the domestic violence classification applies when the victim and defendant share a qualifying household relationship.
Troopers remanded Michael to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility with no bail. According to the Alaska State Troopers dispatch, "Annabelle was charged with the Domestic Violence crimes of Assault in the 2nd and Assault in the 3rd. Annabelle was remanded to MSPT with no bail."
The Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault has said that Alaska has some of the highest rates of domestic violence and sexual assault in the nation and that these crimes "often happen in the context of ongoing patterns of power and control, and can escalate to serious injury or homicide."
Charges are accusations. Michael is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
