Vehicle fire closed a lane in the Richardson Highway work zone near mile 349

A burning vehicle shut down a lane of the Richardson Highway near mile marker 349 Thursday morning, drawing police and ambulance crews to the scene. The incident no longer appeared on either of Alaska 511's lists as of 12:10 p.m.

Alaska 511 logged the incident at 9:04 a.m. AKDT, listing it as affecting all directions of travel, with a planned end time of 11 a.m. the same day. The system rates the severity as minor and reports no full closure. It gives no count of lanes affected.

The closure fell inside a work zone. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is rebuilding the Richardson Highway interchange at Milepost 351, and the project page tells drivers to "expect a single, narrow lane of traffic in each direction with flagging, delays, and a reduced speed of 45 MPH" between MP 349 and MP 352.

Alaska 511 also lists bridge replacement work at Milepost 346, with reduced lanes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
