Two teenagers die in head-on dirt bike collision on Prince of Wales Island

Two teenagers were killed Tuesday evening when their dirt bikes collided on the Hollis Highway on Prince of Wales Island.

Alaska State Troopers identified them as Greyer Schwegel, 18, and Paul Lingley IV, 17. Troopers were called to the scene near mile 24.5, outside Hollis, at about 7:21 p.m. and found both riders there. The two had been riding dirt bikes when they collided head-on, and despite lifesaving efforts, both were pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.

The Hollis Highway is one of Prince of Wales Island's main corridors, linking the ferry terminal at Hollis to Craig, Klawock, and other communities in the Alexander Archipelago of Southeast Alaska.

Troopers have not released any further details about how the collision happened.
