Every Craig and Klawock business checked failed an underage sting

When Alaska regulators sent underage decoys into the bars and dispensaries of Craig and Klawock, every business they checked failed — selling alcohol or marijuana to someone under 21.

Alaska State Troopers and the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office ran the undercover checks on July 30 across the two Prince of Wales Island communities. Every establishment visited was non-compliant, troopers said, and the sweep produced seven infractions. The businesses were not named, and the infractions are accusations they can contest.

The clean sweep fits a new enforcement focus. AMCO recently told its board it would steer compliance checks toward communities off the road system for the rest of the summer — and Craig and Klawock, in Southeast Alaska, are among them.
