Troopers arrest Big Lake driver after pursuit on Beaver Lake Road

Alaska State Troopers said a driver topped 50 mph while fleeing them onto Beaver Lake Road in Big Lake, running a stop sign before his arrest Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Troopers tried to stop a blue Ford Escape with no license plate at about 1:20 p.m. The driver, identified as Jonathan Ooten, failed to signal a turn and held his speed until reaching a residence off Beaver Lake Road, according to the state's daily dispatch.

Ooten was ordered out of the vehicle and arrested for failure to stop under Alaska Statute 28.35.182. Troopers also cited him for driving with a revoked license, failure to show proof of insurance and other traffic violations. The Escape was impounded, and Ooten was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial.

Troopers note the charges are accusations and that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Comment from Ooten or an attorney representing him was not available. The dispatch does not identify any residents or motorists who were directly affected.
