Sitka Assembly to interview municipal administrator applicant Gerrie Cotter on Sept. 10

Sitka is down to one candidate for the job that runs the city day to day, and the Assembly interviews her Thursday.

Gerrie Cotter sits for a second interview by Zoom at 5 pm, for the municipal administrator position overseeing hiring, the budget, public works and daily operations. She became the only candidate left after the other finalist withdrew last month.

This is the second time the search has narrowed to one. Sitka named Jenny Alber its sole finalist earlier this year and held community receptions for her. Alber is no longer in the running, and the Assembly restarted with two new candidates in August.

Much of the work since has happened behind closed doors. The Assembly has used executive session to screen applicants, went into one after the August meeting where Cotter became the last candidate standing, and has flagged two items Thursday as possible executive sessions: one on the interview and one on the recruitment generally.

The agenda includes Cotter's application, redacted. It does not say how many people applied.

Residents get their turn afterward. Public comment is listed on the agenda after the interview and the discussion of it, so whatever direction the Assembly gives will come before anyone from Sitka speaks.
