Searchers bring two hunters out of Power Creek Basin near Cordova after a minor injury
Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cordova police and firefighters, the U.S. Forest Service and 40 volunteers brought two hunters out of the Power Creek Basin near Cordova on Sunday.
One hunter had a minor injury from packing game back to camp, troopers said. The other got soaked trying to reach the injured hunter to help.
The search ran from noon to 5:19 pm, according to the Department of Public Safety. Troopers did not release the hunters' names or say how they were brought out.
The Power Creek basin is in the Chugach National Forest, up a trail that starts near Cordova. The Forest Service's Power Creek Cabin, 4.2 miles up the trail, can be reached only on foot. The agency describes the area as extremely remote, with a forested valley and steep mountains on all sides, and warns that bad weather can keep visitors there longer than planned.
Brown bear, black bear, mountain goat and waterfowl can be hunted there during open seasons, the Forest Service says.
