Sand Point salmon fishery gets 131-hour opening in Stepovak sections

Purse seine and set gillnet permit holders can fish Beaver Bay, Balboa Bay and the three Stepovak sections from 9 am Thursday until 8 pm Tuesday, a 131-hour opening.

Those waters have been shut since Monday night, when a 23-hour extension ran out.

The rest of the Sand Point area is still going. Purse seine and set gillnet fishing remains open until further notice in the Unimak, Southwestern and South Central districts and the Shumagin Islands, and drift gillnet gear is open on the same terms in the Unimak District and Ikatan Bay.

Fish and Game broadcasts announcements on VHF channels 6 and 73 at 9:30 am and 4:30 pm daily. The Sand Point office is at 907-383-2334.
