RTO schedules closed subcommittee meetings for June 10–11

The Railbelt Transmission Organization will hold three closed subcommittee meetings June 10 and 11 to advise on technical standards, transmission tariffs, and financing for the Railbelt electric system.

The Technical Subcommittee meets June 10 at 8 AM, followed by the Tariff Subcommittee at 2 PM June 11 and the Finance Subcommittee at 3 PM the same day. All three sessions will be conducted by teleconference at the Alaska Energy Authority, 813 West Northern Lights Blvd., Anchorage (Teams Meeting Only).

The RTO is a regional body that coordinates transmission operations and tariffs across the Railbelt, the 700-mile interconnected grid running from the Kenai Peninsula through Anchorage to Fairbanks. The grid serves about two-thirds of Alaska's population. The subcommittees advise on tariffs, technical standards, and financing that can affect future grid costs and planning.

RTO bylaws exempt subcommittee meetings from the organization's open-meeting provisions, and the three meetings are closed to the public. The three subcommittees advise the RTO Governance Committee but lack authority to set policy or make binding decisions. Governance Committee meetings remain open to the public.

The meetings fit an ongoing buildout of Railbelt governance. The Regulatory Commission of Alaska announced in 2020 that a Railbelt reliability organization was organizing and expected to hold its first board meeting in the August/September timeframe, marking a formal step toward coordinated Railbelt reliability governance.
