PRC benefits cover hearing aids, vision care, and travel for eligible Noatak residents

Purchased/Referred Care covers up to $3,000 for audiology and hearing aids every two years and up to $600 per year toward eyeglasses or an eye exam, according to a July 15 benefits update from the program. Travel assistance and gas reimbursement may also be available for qualifying specialty care referrals. This is a reminder of existing benefits, not a new expansion of coverage.

PRC is a federally funded program that buys outside health care services when a tribal facility cannot provide them, but funding is limited and not guaranteed, according to Tanana Chiefs Conference. For Noatak residents who already face long distances to specialty care, the program helps offset those costs, though eligible patients may still face uncovered bills or delays if they skip prior authorization or are slow to submit claims.

Most services require prior authorization before or after the appointment. Emergency care is the exception.

Patients should call the PRC Coordinator at 907-224-3490 before or after their appointment to confirm eligibility and reimbursement requirements. Any medical bills should be submitted to the PRC office promptly. Staff can review the charges and work with the provider or billing office when appropriate. Delayed submission can lead to collection or payment delays.
