Parks Highway delays ease on one stretch, but not the next

Drivers on the Parks Highway between Milepost 322 and 325 no longer face construction traffic control. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said in its Northern Region construction update that a temporary crossing over the highway is complete and the segment is open to free-flow traffic.

The crossing carries construction haul trucks over the highway instead of across it, which lets traffic move through the project without stopping and ends the need for flagging there. It's a notable change for the corridor, which had been running 24-hour flagging and pilot cars with active blasting through Nenana Canyon. The work is part of a realignment that reduces curves and adds truck lanes between Milepost 322 and 325.

The relief doesn't extend to the next stretch. On the adjoining MP 319-322 project, a speed reduction remains in effect and traffic is still routed through temporary diversions, with substantial completion not expected until 2028. Crews are also still working the MP 322-325 segment Monday through Saturday, so the department advises watching for equipment.

The department directs travelers to Alaska 511 for current conditions.
