Park Service awards $4.5 million to rebuild Glacier Bay waterline for fire flow

The National Park Service has awarded a $4,535,039 contract to Sealaska Constructors LLC of Seattle to rehabilitate the water-distribution system at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve so it can meet fire-flow requirements, the volume and pressure needed to fight a structure fire. The work is at Bartlett Cove, the park's headquarters. The contract, numbered 140P9726C0005, runs from Sept. 22, 2026, through Nov. 1, 2027.

Federal records list Sealaska Constructors as an Alaska Native corporation owned firm. The contract was a total small-business set-aside, competed, and drew two offers.

The firm-fixed-price solicitation, which sets one price regardless of cost, covers upsizing existing distribution lines, installing new lines tied to the existing main, and reinstalling service lines, fire lines, hydrants and gate valves. It was posted Aug. 7 with proposals due Aug. 20, and listed a completion deadline of May 1, 2027, earlier than the contract period now on record; that discrepancy is unexplained in the records reviewed.

The project follows a separate $19.268 million Interior Department plan to replace concessioner housing, quarters for commercial operators, and address deferred maintenance at Glacier Bay Lodge, which is also at Bartlett Cove.
