Up to 2 inches of rain may raise Koyukuk and Middle Yukon headwater streams, with no flood concern
Small streams feeding the Koyukuk and Middle Yukon rivers may rise significantly over the next day as up to 2 inches of rain falls across Interior Alaska, the National Weather Service Fairbanks office said Monday. Mainstem rivers are running low. Because of that, forecasters said there are no concerns for the larger rivers in the area.
The hydrologic outlook took effect at 12:01 p.m. Monday and runs until 4 p.m. Tuesday. It covers the South Slopes of the Central Brooks Range, the Upper Koyukuk Valley, the Lower Koyukuk Valley, the Middle Yukon Valley and the Central Interior. Those forecast zones include Allakaket, Huslia and Galena. Rainfall rates are expected to decrease by Tuesday afternoon.
