Nome may add flowcharts to help residents navigate permits

Nome residents applying for a variance or rezoning may eventually get visual flowcharts to walk them through the process, alongside the written application materials. The Planning Commission backed the idea Tuesday, though its planning administrator, Erin Nerbovik, said she still needs to check the charts for accuracy and run them by staff first.

Nerbovik showed the commission memos and several pages of decision trees covering variances, conditional-use permits, rezoning and the approval of maps that divide land into lots. The charts list the relevant code sections and fees, though Nerbovik noted the dollar figures could go out of date and suggested keeping fees on a separate sheet that's easy to swap out.

The commission's next meeting moves to Oct. 13 to avoid the Oct. 6 election.
