NANA's fall payout works out to about $1,687 for an original shareholder
NANA Regional Corporation will pay $16.87 a share this November. For an original shareholder holding the standard 100 shares issued under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, that comes to about $1,687. Board chair Atmaġuq Lee "Big Boy" Staheli framed the payout as help for families under financial pressure.
"We know many shareholders and families are under real financial pressure right now," Staheli said, calling it "one way NANA can offer meaningful support." Its purpose, he said, has been to help NANA's people, the Iñupiat shareholders of the Northwest Arctic.
The 100-share figure traces to ANCSA, which issued that amount to eligible Alaska Natives born on or before Dec. 18, 1971. NANA has since opened enrollment to descendants born after that date through Class D shares. Shareholders whose holdings differ, through inheritance, gifting, or descendant enrollment, would receive more or less than the original-shareholder figure.
The fall dividend has varied year to year: about $15 a share in 2023, $20 last fall, and $16.87 this year. The board adopted a distribution policy in 2023 to guide annual dividends while maintaining the company's financial stability.
The money lands on or about Nov. 13, by check or direct deposit. Shareholders who want to be paid on time must have current contact and direct-deposit information on file by 5 p.m. Nov. 6, through NANA's shareholder records office at 907-442-3301 or [email protected].
