Motorcyclist killed on N Post Road in Anchorage; Jeep driver fled scene, police say

An adult male motorcyclist died Friday night, Sept. 4, on N Post Road in Anchorage after a collision with a Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep's driver fled the scene in another vehicle, the Anchorage Police Department said.

Officers responded at about 9:16 p.m. to N Post Road between N Sitka Street and N Wrangell Street. The motorcyclist was declared dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until next-of-kin notification is complete.

The department's Major Collision Investigation Unit is handling the case, No. 26-23385. "Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to call 311," the department said in its release. The account released so far comes only from APD. The release names no suspect and gives no description of the second vehicle.

On Aug. 22, a dark-colored SUV struck and killed a woman at the Seward Highway and Benson Boulevard and did not stop, APD said in a release on that case. The vehicle has since been located and the driver contacted, and no charges have been filed and no citations issued. The Alaska Epidemiology Bulletin on pedestrian fatalities in Anchorage found that drivers fled in 30% of the 92 pedestrian deaths recorded from 2016 through 2025.
