Man fatally shot in East Anchorage; police say they are not looking for anyone

An adult male was shot and killed late Saturday in the 6700 block of E 6th Ave in East Anchorage, the Anchorage Police Department said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at about 11 p.m. Aug. 29 and found the man with gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the department's release. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

In a release posted Monday, case 26-22832, the department said: "Detectives have contacted everyone believed to be involved in this investigation and are not looking for anyone at this time." The release, posted by Gina Romero, director of APD's Community Relations Unit, says the preliminary investigation shows the death appears to be an isolated incident, and that the circumstances remain under investigation.

The release does not say how the man died beyond his injuries, whether anyone has been arrested, or what led to the shooting. It contains no account from anyone outside the department.

The shooting is the third death investigation in East Anchorage since July. APD reported a man found dead with upper-body injuries in the 3900 block of East 8th Avenue on Aug. 26, case 26-22519, and two men found shot dead inside a residence in the 8000 block of East 5th Avenue on July 21, case 26-19179. It identified those two as Spencer King, 47, and Tajuan Jamestown, 19.

That sentence about detectives is not unique to this case. It appears word for word in the July 21 release, which also called those deaths an isolated incident.

The victim's name will be released after next-of-kin notification.
