Three Kodiak westside sections now open until further notice; 54-hour period ends 6 p.m. Saturday

Three sections of the Kodiak salmon fishery are open to commercial seining with no closing time attached. Outer Karluk, Central and North Cape are fishing until further notice, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says. The period covering much of the rest of the area ends at 6 pm Saturday.

The season has been running on extensions. Fish and Game has issued them back to back since late August, pushing the fishery past the closing dates originally on the books, and the three sections now open carry no end date at all.

Izhut Bay and both the outer and inner sections of Kitoi Bay remain closed.

Kings stay off the table. Chinook salmon 28 inches or longer may not be retained by purse seine gear anywhere in the Kodiak Area until further notice, and must be released unharmed.
