Kenai Peninsula planning commission to hear Cohoe road vacation Sept. 14

A platted public road corridor in the Cohoe area could be erased for good, so that a couple from Anchorage can put a campground on it.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission holds a public hearing Monday, Sept. 14, on a petition from Joseph and Isabel Vesely to vacate Keyros Avenue, the right-of-way laid out in the Pettifoggers Place Subdivision Keyros Addition plat.

Vacating a right-of-way takes it out of public use permanently. Because Cohoe lies outside any city limits, the commission cannot finish the job on its own: the borough assembly has to consent, and it has 30 days after an approval to veto it.

Written comment closes Sept. 11 at 1 pm. At the hearing, each person may speak once for up to five minutes. Anyone who comments or testifies can appeal the commission's decision to the borough clerk within 15 days of the notice of decision.

If the commission turns the petition down, borough code keeps the Veselys from filing the same request again for a calendar year, unless something comes up that was not available to them the first time.

The hearing begins at 7:30 pm in the assembly chambers in Soldotna.
