Kenai Peninsula planning commission to hear Cohoe road vacation Sept. 14

A platted public road corridor in the Cohoe area could be erased for good.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Monday, Sept. 14, on a petition to vacate Keyros Avenue, the right-of-way granted by the Pettifoggers Place Subdivision Keyros Addition plat. The petitioners, Joseph and Isabel Vesely of Anchorage, say they plan a campground there.

Vacating a right-of-way removes it from public use. Because Cohoe sits outside any city limits, the commission's decision can't take effect without borough assembly consent, and the assembly has 30 calendar days after approval to veto it.

Each person may testify only once at the hearing, limited to five minutes, but a party of record may still appeal the commission's decision to the Borough Clerk within 15 days of the notice of decision. Written comment closes Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.

Borough code bars any reapplication on the same vacation for one calendar year, unless new evidence or circumstances come up that weren't available when the original petition was filed.

The hearing begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Betty J. Glick Assembly Chambers in Soldotna.
