Kenai council to weigh more money for Senior Center canopy roof

The Kenai City Council will hold a public hearing Wednesday, Sept. 16, on adding more money to the Senior Center canopy roof replacement. The proposal, Ordinance No. 3545-2026, would raise estimated revenues and appropriations in the General Fund and the Senior Center Improvement Capital Project fund. The agenda does not state the amount. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at 210 Fidalgo Ave. Second reading requires a unanimous vote. Enactment requires five affirmative votes.

The work is already under contract. Alaska News previously reported the council's unanimous enactment of an emergency ordinance adding $110,000 to a $396,370 Orion Construction contract for bundled roof replacements at the Senior Center canopy and the animal control shelter. Substantial completion is due Oct. 31. A November 2024 Council on Aging Commission plan listed $50,000 for the canopy alone.

The agenda also includes a library-code ordinance, two police interceptors, a SCADA design contract and student representative confirmations. Zoom registration is required for residents who want to comment remotely.
