HUD awards $85,520 to Anchorage disability housing provider

Anchorage's AASC Housing II Inc. will receive a combined $85,520 from HUD's Section 811 program, which subsidizes rent for very-low-income residents with disabilities aged 18 to 61. Two award records posted to USAspending.gov, AK06Q051001-25I for $25,737 and AK06Q051001-26I for $59,783, document the funding.

Section 811 funds permanent, integrated rental housing where residents can reach voluntary community-based services such as case management and daily-living assistance. Tenants pay 30% of adjusted income or 10% of monthly income, whichever is higher, toward rent and utilities. A project rental assistance contract covers the balance. Owners claim the subsidy monthly, so neither posted figure is necessarily a lump sum. USAspending postings lag actual awards by two to six weeks.

Alaska Housing Finance Corporation manages Section 811 in the state. The subsidies do not meet demand: Anchorage has planned project-based vouchers paired with a Section 811 grant to expand housing and supportive services for residents with disabilities.
