GSA adds $7,388 to Fairbanks firm's Boston courthouse chiller repair
The General Services Administration added $7,388 on Thursday, Oct. 8, to a chiller overhaul that Fairbanks-based KCORP Technology Services is performing at the John Joseph Moakley U.S. Courthouse in Boston. The money pays for a breaker the federal award record describes as necessary to complete the repair of Chiller No. 3.
The modification brings the amount obligated on the order to $184,236 since the first obligation on May 8, up from roughly $177,000, the value a separate contract record lists for the chiller job. An obligation is a legal commitment of federal money, not a measure of what has been spent; USAspending.gov notes that a posting can trail the action it records by weeks. The order runs through May 10, 2027.
The award is a call order under the Moakley facilities-maintenance blanket purchase agreement KCORP received in July 2022, an arrangement that lets the agency issue repeated task orders against a standing contract rather than rebidding each job. This order's original scope covers all labor and materials to overhaul and rebuild a Trane CVHA chiller, one of the units that cools the building.
Alaska News previously covered a Fairbanks firm owned by four Koyukuk River villages that runs the courthouse; GSA lists KCORP as an Alaska Native corporation-owned firm. Its other 2026 Moakley orders include emergency repairs to Boilers 1 and 2 and an emergency AC motor replacement.
GSA has separately proposed replacing the courthouse's boilers, chillers and air-handling units, stating that the existing equipment has reached the end of its useful life and seeking $45.175 million for HVAC upgrades. The award record does not say whether Chiller No. 3 is among the units that project would replace.
