Governor's Council opens registration for free two-day virtual disability advocacy training

Registration is open for a free two-day online advocacy training for Alaskans with disabilities, their family members and guardians, and the staff who serve them.

The Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education is hosting the event, titled "ADVOCACY: We Can Make a Difference," on Sept. 1 and 2, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Registration runs through the council's Ticketbud page. The training is aimed at self-advocates, family members and guardians, and professional staff serving people with disabilities.

Sessions include Disability History 101, an "I Have Rights" panel, a self-advocacy experience, voting rights and access, and legislative advocacy and telling your story. Speakers come from disability network partners across Alaska. The council said attendees will be able to connect with agencies and providers.

The council is a federally mandated body housed within the Alaska Department of Health.
