Anchorage Disability Pride Celebration set for July 25 at Delaney Park Strip
Peer Power Alaska will host a free Disability Pride Celebration at Delaney Park Strip on Saturday, July 25, from noon to 4 p.m., marking 36 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act became law. Programming includes food, games, music, and a petting zoo. An American Sign Language interpreter will be on site. Admission is free.
The Americans with Disabilities Act, signed into law on July 26, 1990 by President George H.W. Bush, passed Congress with broad bipartisan support and prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, public accommodations, transportation, telecommunications, and state and local government services.
Disability Pride Month is observed each July and originated with the 25th anniversary of the ADA in 2015. The 2026 theme is "The World Works Better With Us." Peer Power Alaska, a self-advocacy group supported by the Governor's Council on Disabilities and Special Education, focuses on leadership development for Alaskans with disabilities.
Anchorage has hosted an annual Disability Pride Celebration at the Park Strip in partnership with local disability organizations and the Governor's Council. Information: 907-250-3742 or [email protected]. Delaney Park Strip is on W 9th Avenue in downtown Anchorage.
