FBI renews $1.37 million visitor-management software order with Anchorage-based company

The FBI is renewing a software system it uses to manage visitors to its facilities, and the $1.37 million order is going to an Anchorage-based company owned by the Native Village of Eyak.

Federal spending records show the FBI's one-year order with Copper River Information Technology starts Wednesday and runs through Sept. 29, 2027. It covers CertiPath's TrustVisitor software and related services. The FBI placed a similar order with the company a year ago, now recorded at about $1.35 million. The company has also sold other software to the Justice Department, including Red Hat Linux license renewals for several of its offices.

TrustVisitor handles the paperwork of letting outsiders into a secure building. According to CertiPath, an employee schedules a meeting as usual, and the system checks which attendees already have access to the location. Guests who don't are sent a link to register. The system then checks their credentials, asks a designated approver to sign off and grants temporary access for the length of the event.

The FBI bought the software through a NASA-run contract that lets any federal agency order technology products from a set of pre-approved vendors. Copper River IT is one of those vendors, and it resells products from a long list of technology manufacturers.

The company is part of the Copper River family of companies, which is owned by the Native Village of Eyak, the tribe based in Cordova. Its corporate headquarters is in Anchorage, and it has a second headquarters in Chantilly, Virginia, outside Washington, D.C. The company has graduated from the Small Business Administration's 8(a) program, which helps disadvantaged businesses, including tribally owned ones, compete for federal contracts.

Because the company is headquartered in Anchorage, the government's spending records count the FBI order toward federal spending in Alaska, and they list Alaska as the place of performance.
