Cordova seeks applicants for five city boards ahead of December appointments
Mayor Kristin Smith and the Cordova City Council are seeking volunteers for five advisory bodies: the Harbor Commission, Library Board, Planning Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission and Historic Preservation Commission. Seats expire at the end of November, a city notice said Monday, and the council will make appointments in December. The notice's header lists a Nov. 30 deadline, though its body says applications are accepted continuously.
The city's roster shows staggered three-year terms, with 11 seats expiring this year, three of them on the Planning Commission. The other four bodies each have two expiring seats.
The commissions weigh in on local decisions. In June the Harbor Commission sent a proposed sale of tidelands for a dock near the small boat harbor entrance back for engineering review. This month the Planning Commission approved a permit for a rental cabin that had been built without one.
On Sept. 2 the council concurred with the mayor's appointment of Christian Oehm to fill an open Planning Commission seat.
Applications are available on the City of Cordova website or from the city clerk's office.
