Cordova to show concepts for a future recreation and aquatic facility Oct. 20
Cordova residents can see concepts for a future recreation and aquatic facility Tuesday, Oct. 20, when the city's Parks & Recreation Department and architectural consultant ECI present them at the Cordova Center.
The session runs from 5 to 7 pm in Rooms A and B, and residents can ask questions and share ideas. ECI has worked with Corvus Design on the draft Parks & Recreation Master Plan, which the city says it is close to finishing. The plan will guide parks, facilities and programs for 20 years, according to the city's Parks and Recreation projects page.
Alaska News reported on the Bob Korn Memorial Swimming Pool's breakdown this summer and a push to merge it with the rec center. The pool has since reopened. In September, the pool was running more hours than its temporary staff budget allows, Alaska News reported Sept. 30.
At the Oct. 7 City Council meeting, staff said the concepts were being refined around community needs, staffing and long-term upkeep, with a view to what the facility would look like 10 to 15 years from now.
Based on a press release from City of Cordova.
