A commercial vehicle rolled over and closed the Tok Cutoff Highway in both directions near mile marker 52 Monday evening.

Alaska 511 reported the closure at 5:19 pm in a listing from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. The listing first gave a planned reopening at 7:20 pm. A 6:04 pm update moved the reopening to 10:20 pm, about five hours after the closure began.

Recovery crews were in the area, and drivers were told to reduce speed. Alaska 511 classified the incident as minor.

The Tok Cutoff runs about 125 miles, linking the Richardson Highway near Glennallen with the Alaska Highway at Tok, according to the state's 2010 Interior Alaska Transportation Plan. Most of the route averaged about 500 vehicles a day, the plan said, with the highest average daily traffic, 1,051 vehicles, at the Tok Maintenance Station near mile marker 124.

A week earlier, on Oct. 12, a commercial vehicle crash closed the Tok Cutoff between mile markers 59 and 60, near Slana, Alaska News reported. Alaska 511 estimated that closure would last about two hours, and by late morning the closure no longer appeared on the site.

Drivers can check Alaska 511's Tok page for current conditions on the route.
