California man arrested for DUI on Kenai Spur Highway

A 31-year-old California man was arrested Monday, July 27, on a charge of driving under the influence after Alaska State Troopers stopped him for speeding near mile marker 9 on the Kenai Spur Highway. Troopers reported a strong odor of alcohol. A Datamaster breath test registered 0.183 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. He was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility on one count of DUI. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Troopers have logged several similar cases on the Kenai Peninsula this month. A Soldotna stop on July 2 for 51 mph in a 35 mph zone ended with one driver's arrest on charges of DUI and refusal to provide a breath sample. A motorcycle stop on July 23 for 75 mph in a 55 mph zone produced a 0.107 reading. That driver also faced charges of driving with a revoked license and violating probation. Both drivers were remanded to Wildwood.
