BSNC shareholders have until Oct. 23 to apply for vacant board seat
Bering Straits Native Corporation is taking applications from shareholders who want the board seat Director Eugene Asicksik is leaving. Applications opened Oct. 5, 2026, and materials must arrive by 5 pm AKDT on Oct. 23.
Shareholders won't vote on this seat. Under BSNC bylaws, the Board of Directors will appoint a qualified shareholder to serve the rest of Asicksik's term, which was set to expire in October 2027.
Asicksik, who represented Shaktoolik, served on the board from 1986 to 2022 and returned in 2023, BSNC said in an August announcement honoring retiring directors. The corporation said the seat of the other retiring director, Tony A. Weyiouanna Sr., will be filled in the 2026 board election. BSNC is owned by more than 8,200 Alaska Native shareholders.
Applicants must be at least 18 and a voting shareholder. They need a letter of interest explaining why they want to serve and their qualifications, a current resume, and a completed Proxy Compliance and Conflict of Interest Questionnaire. Incomplete submissions may not be considered. Nominees already running in the 2026 election of directors don't have to reapply, but they must email BSNC by the deadline to say they're interested.
Applications can go by email to [email protected], by hand to the Shareholder Services Department at 110 Front Street, Suite 300, in Nome, weekdays 8 am to 5 pm, or by mail to PO Box 1008, Nome, AK 99762. Mailed packets must arrive by the deadline. A postmark alone won't count. Shareholders with questions or questionnaire requests can reach BSNC at the same email address.
