Anchorage firm wins $748,234 to demolish buildings at a West Virginia park

The National Park Service has awarded $748,234 to Anchorage-based Ahtna Global LLC to demolish excess and abandoned structures at New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia, under contract 140P2026F0212. The work is scheduled to run from Sept. 2, 2026, through June 30, 2027, under project identifier NERI 326119.

Alaska Native corporations often pursue federal contracts through separately certified subsidiaries rather than the parent corporation itself. Ahtna Global is a subsidiary of Ahtna Diversified Holdings, LLC, which in turn sits under Ahtna, Inc., the Alaska Native regional corporation headquartered in Glennallen. Ahtna, Inc. operates 15 subsidiaries in government contracting and construction-related services; Kevin Bergt is listed as Ahtna Global's president. Ahtna Global markets itself as an SBA-certified ANC 8(a) contractor, a designation that, under Federal Acquisition Regulation 19.805-1 and Small Business Administration rules at 13 C.F.R. Alaska News has previously reported that a freeze on new applications to the federal 8(a) program threatens future revenue for Alaska Native corporations; those corporations generated $9 billion in federal work in 2022 and returned $300 million to shareholders last year.

None of the New River Gorge work occurs in Alaska. The award record identifies Ahtna Global LLC, of Anchorage, as the recipient, a reminder that the geography of an Alaska Native corporation's contracting footprint and the geography of its workforce need not overlap.
