An Anchorage firm fell to six employees and built itself back up

ASCI Federal Services went from 125 employees to six, and back to nearly 50.

The Anchorage logistics firm lost more than 90 percent of its revenue and 95 percent of its workforce between January 2021 and October 2022. It restructured as a majority women-owned business, turned toward federal contracting, and rebuilt annual revenue from $1.4 million to nearly $8 million. The Small Business Administration certified it as a woman-owned small business in December 2022.

The work looks like this. The General Services Administration placed 15 purchase orders with ASCI this week, ranging from $47 for industrial goggles to $2,691 for disposable gloves.

Each is a line item under a $12.4 million logistics contract GSA awarded in November 2022 for sourcing, procurement, warehousing and transportation for federal customers in Alaska. That figure is a ceiling, not money spent, and single orders have run far larger than this week's batch. One in July was $40,862 for copy paper.

The federal work reaches past Alaska. ASCI's largest single award is a Navy contract that began in April 2024 and runs through March 2027, with about $14.8 million obligated against a potential value of roughly $26.6 million. It is performed in North Carolina.
