Alaska households paid 28.83 cents per kWh in July, up from 27.30 cents a year earlier

Alaska households paid an average 28.83 cents per kilowatthour in July, up from 28.21 cents in June and 27.30 cents in July 2025, according to figures the U.S. Energy Information Administration released Thursday. Residential sales rose to 149.8 million kilowatthours from 139.8 million.

All classes together averaged 25.41 cents, up from 24.27 cents in June. Sales totaled 472.0 million kilowatthours and revenue $119.9 million, against 460.9 million and $111.9 million in June. A year earlier: 486 million kilowatthours and $114 million, so less electricity for more money.

Commercial customers paid 23.29 cents, industrial 24.81, up from 19.40 cents a year earlier and the state's biggest move.

Statewide averages are not household bills. The Alaska Energy Authority's Power Cost Equalization program lowers rural residential rates. In Juneau, Alaska Electric Light and Power charges 11.36 cents per kWh June through October and 13.83 cents November through May, plus $11.34 a month, less than half the statewide residential average.
