Southcentral's gas storage is two thirds full, and one field stops taking gas Monday

Southcentral's two commercial gas storage fields hold about 68 percent of their combined capacity, with roughly 16 billion cubic feet of room still empty, according to the operators' dashboards.

Cook Inlet Natural Gas Storage Alaska, or CINGSA, was 58.9 percent full Thursday. Hilcorp Alaska Gas Storage, or HAGS, was 71.3 percent full Wednesday evening.

CINGSA will accept no injections, the gas pumped in, from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21 for required semiannual maintenance.

"We are getting dangerously close to not having enough gas to go around," Hilcorp's Luke Saugier said Aug. 6. Enstar has said it is roughly 3 billion cubic feet short for winter, and the Department of Natural Resources has three new storage applications under review. Some Southcentral Mayors' Energy Coalition members counter that Hilcorp remains committed to meeting contractual demands.
