The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority will organize the 2027 Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in Anchorage under a resolution its board adopted Sept. 22 in Kotzebue. Executive Director Randy Ruaro may spend up to $400,000 and contract with Government Event Services, known as Toast of the Town, which the resolution says has run the conference every year since 2022.

Ruaro may take "all necessary actions" to continue the conference yearly and must report back to the board.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy founded the conference in 2022. Attendance topped 1,000 in both 2025 and 2026, according to the resolution. AIDEA will run it alongside the governor's office, the Alaska Energy Authority, the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Alaska Center for Energy and Power, and the U.S. Department of Energy's Arctic Energy Office.

The resolution points to AIDEA's record net income in fiscal years 2025 and 2026, more than $500 million paid to the state in dividends since 1996, and its lead role on the Ambler and West Susitna road projects and on developing resources in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The resolution does not name a funding source for the conference. A communications budget the board approved in April allows up to $700,000 a year in 2026 and 2027 for marketing efforts including conferences and trade show sponsorships. Records do not say whether the conference spending counts against that budget.
