Welcome to TCC Weekly. I'm Courtney Doane, Legal Manager and Acting Infrastructure Director with Tanana Chiefs Conference. Let's take a look at what's happening around the region. Municipal elections are coming up October 6th. In Fairbanks, these elections will decide several seats on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly and the North Star Borough School District, as well as the city council and North Pole City Council.

There are 3 propositions on the Fairbanks North Star Borough ticket this year as well. Proposition 1 is an incentive to establish maximum allowable tax revenue. Proposition 2 would move the municipality election date to the same date as the Alaska State General Election, the first Tuesday in November. And Proposition 3 asks voters to decide if the borough should return to hand-counted ballots or stay with electronic tabulation devices to record votes. In rural areas, Regional Education Assistance Area, or REAA, elections take place on the same day as the municipality elections.

REA elections determine school board seats in the ungoverned areas. Chances are if you live in the rural area, there is at least one school board seat with candidates running for it. Make sure you get out and vote on October 6th. Learn more about the candidates and measures on the borough and city ballots this year. Visit www.fairbanks.gov.

Do you want to offer a popular activity that brings your rural community together? TCC's TANF is seeking qualified contractors, organizations, and community partners to provide a 3-day basketball camp for youth and families throughout the region. Up to 5 camps will be funded with a focus on youth development, family engagement, healthy lifestyles, and cultural connection. The proposed deadline is September 30th. You can learn more by visiting Tanana Chiefs Facebook page.

We are currently accepting photo submissions for our 2027 TCC calendar. We are looking for images that celebrate the land, the culture, and the people of Interior Alaska. Please avoid downloads, screenshots, or edited photos so that we can have the highest quality for print. And as always, per guidance from our elders, please do not submit photos of hunters with their harvested animals. The deadline is Friday, October 16th.

In infrastructure news, we are proud to announce that TCC has been awarded $2.5 million through the Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program to advance broadband readiness in communities across the region. The funding will support broadband planning and design work in Ruby, Galena, Mulatto, and Coyacook, helping lay the groundwork for future high-speed internet infrastructure. The award will also support a digital workforce development program in Holy Cross, providing technology training, equipment, and stipends for participants who complete the program. We're excited for the opportunity to help keep our rural communities connected while making it easier for people to access education employment, healthcare, and other resources from their home communities. Now for a couple career opportunities.
