Welcome to TCC Weekly, I'm Darlene Huntington, Deputy Pharmacy Director at Tanana Chiefs Conference. Let's get into the news and updates from across our region. An important update for families impacted by the Mukluk Fire near Tok. Governor Mike Dunleavy has issued a disaster declaration making state individual assistance available for eligible residents. If your primary residence or essential personal property was damaged by the fire, assistance may be available for housing, personal property, transportation, temporary housing, and other disaster-related needs.

Those impacted are encouraged as soon as possible by visiting ready.alaska.gov The deadline to apply is October 19th. Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone impacted by the Mukluk Fire. Changing gears, hunting season is here and we want you to be prepared for a safe and successful hunt. Before you head out, make sure you know the regulations for the area where you plan to hunt. Here's the rundown.

In Unit 20E, residents can hunt bull moose from August 24th through August 28th. In Unit 20D Healy River Drainage, the resident hunt opened August 15 and runs through August 28. In Units 21B and 21D, the resident season runs from August 22 through August 31. And in the western portion of Unit 25D, a permit hunt opens August 25 and runs through February. These late August opportunities are for residents.

The same areas open to both residents and non-residents later in September. Before you head out, check the current regulations for your exact GMU at hunt.alaska.gov or contact your local Fish and Game office to make sure you're hunting in the right areas and have the proper permit. Happy hunting to all. Speaking of hunting, the Alaska Federation of Natives wants to hear from you about the future of subsistence in Alaska. AFN is hosting a subsistence listening session on Monday, August 31st, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall in Fairbanks.

Tribal leaders and citizens Elders, subsistence harvesters, youth, and community members are encouraged to attend and share experiences, your concerns, and priorities. Lunch will be provided. If you can't attend in person, comments can be submitted online through September 30th at nativefederation.org. Now switching gears to a more serious and concerning topic. Have you talked to your kids about the Benadryl challenge?

This dangerous social media trend encourages young people to misuse Benadryl and has been linked to serious overdoses across the country. Talk with your children about what they're seeing on social media and TikTok. Remind them that online challenges can be very dangerous. Keep medications stored securely and encourage them to come to a trusted adult with questions or concerns. Together, we can help keep our youth safe, healthy, and protected from dangerous trends.

In archaeological news, the McGrath Village Council, Táchak Historical Society, and project partners recently buried the remains of 3 people and a dog. Along with stone artifacts discovered in 2012 during construction of a levee along the Kuskokwim River in McGrath. Since their discovery, the remains have been studied to learn more about the individuals and the lifestyles of pre-colonization Upper Kuskokwim peoples. We want to thank everyone who worked together to bury our ancestors in a respectful and ceremonious manner. That's all for this week's TCC Weekly.
