Let's jump into what's happening across the region. Last Friday, tribal leaders gathered in Tanana to celebrate the opening of the community's new clinic.

The event marked an important milestone for the community and recognized the collaboration and dedication that made the project possible. The new clinic represents an investment in accessible, high-quality healthcare and will help strengthen services for current and future generations. In public safety news, TCC is proud to celebrate the remarkable career of K9 Jack. Jack served faithfully for for 4 years, helping remove 21 ounces of illegal narcotics, 2 ounces of methamphetamine, 50 fentanyl pills, and approximately 92,900 milliliters, or 109 bottles of alcohol in the Villages. He will enjoy a happy retirement at home with his handler Matthew Williamson and his family.

Following in Jack's footsteps is the newest canine addition, K9 Nipsey, who is likewise trained in narcotics detection, tracking, and handler protection. Nipsey and his handler, Corporal Ymir DeBose, are committed to enhancing public safety and protecting communities served by TCC. Please join us in congratulating K9 Jack in his hard-earned retirement and in welcoming K9 Nipsey to his new role and very important job. Back-to-school session is almost here. And now is the perfect time to schedule your child's annual wellness visit.

Throughout August, Tanana Chiefs Conference will host back-to-school clinics at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center here in Fairbanks, Upper Tanana Health Center in Tok, and Edgar Nolner Health Center in Galena. Clinics will offer well-child checkups, sports physicals, and immunizations with weekend, after-hours, and walk-in appointments available to make care more accessible accessible for families. As we support children heading back to school, we also recognize the importance of giving babies the healthiest possible start in life. Indigenous Milk Medicine Week is an annual celebration that takes place during National Breastfeeding Month and celebrates the culture, tradition, and medicinal nature of breastfeeding.

If you are currently breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed, you can take a short survey at TCC WIC services and to be entered to win a prize. Check our Facebook page for more details. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or breast pumping for your family, you're invited to attend the traditional First Food Circle on Wednesday, August 12th in the Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center lobby. This challenge is a very dangerous social media trend encouraging young people to misuse Benadryl and has been linked to serious overdoses across the country. Ask your children what they are seeing on TikTok and other social media. Remind them that online challenges can be dangerous. Keep medications stored securely and encourage them to come to a trusted adult if they have questions or concerns. Election Day is getting closer.

Join the Governor Candidate Mixer on August 5th from 11 AM to 1:30 PM at the Chief David Salmon-Trouble Hall. There are also several important election deadlines to keep in mind. Early and absentee in-person voting begins August 3rd, and August 8th is the deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail. The primary election is August 18th. Followed by the general election on November 3rd.
