Tanana Chiefs Conference leadership and staff recently traveled to Chalkeetsek for the Yukon Flats Subregional Advisory Board meeting. This was an opportunity to connect with community leaders and learn more about the opportunities, concerns, and priorities shaping the Yukon Flats Subregion.

The Yukon Flats Subregional Meeting included reports from the Chief, Chairman, Vice President, and emerging leaders, along with the program updates covering housing, infrastructure, tribal resource stewardship, public safety, family and workforce development, education, health, and behavioral health. Subregional meetings provide an opportunity for beneficiaries and tribal representatives to discuss regional priorities and develop resolutions for consideration by the full Executive Board. Thank you to the community of Chalkeetsek for your warm hospitality and for hosting the space in which to share perspectives and priorities. TANANA Chiefs Conference values these conversations and remains committed to working alongside our tribes to support their long-term goals. Last week we also hosted the annual Old Mintow Family Recovery Camp sobriety potlatch.

The potlatch honors individuals and families who have chosen a traditional drug and alcohol-free lifestyle while offering encouragement, hope, and support to all who attend. Grounded in Alaska Native culture and traditional values, Old Mintow Recovery Camp helps participants heal from trauma, strengthen their wellness, and overcome substance use. The annual sobriety potlatch marks the conclusion of the week's activities, sending participants home with a renewed sense of hope, connection, and belonging. Now for some upcoming events and housekeeping items. Back-to-school season is here, and a well-child checkup is one of the best ways to help your child start the school year healthy and ready to learn.

This August, Tanana Chiefs Conference will offer special back-to-school clinics at Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center in Fairbanks. Upper Tanana Health Center in Tok, and Edgar Nollner Health Center in Galena. Services will include well-child checkups, sports physicals, and immunizations, with weekend, after-hours, and walk-in appointments available. Families can also enjoy fun activities and giveaways during the clinics. Voting season is underway, and Interior Native Vote invites you to the Governor Candidate Mixer on August 5th from 11 to 1:30 PM at the Chief David Salmon Tribal Hall. This is an opportunity to meet the candidates, hear their perspectives, and learn more about the issues that matter to Interior Alaska communities. The recent State House and State Senate Candidate Mixer brought community members together for meaningful conversations. Great food, and valuable election information, and organizers look forward to another strong turnout. Be sure to mark these important election dates.

The primary election is August 18th and the general election is November 3rd. To register to vote or check your voter registration status, visit voterregistration.alaska.gov.
