Thank you, uh, Lieutenant Governor. For the record, my name is Mike Chenault, and I am a co-sponsor for the Alaska— Alaskans for Citizen Voting Initiative. Thank you for the opportunity to speak today in support of this measure. I want to begin this with the issue of non-citizen voting, it's not hypothetical. In this year alone, the Los Angeles City Council moved forward a proposal to allow non-citizens voting in city and school board elections.
Alaska's Ballot Measure 3 would specify only citizens can vote. Supporters call it a safeguard; opponents say it forecloses a path for American Samoan U.S. nationals to vote locally.
