“within the last year and a half especially, it's been reinvigorated. There's been a number of tribal leaders, victim services, community leaders that have come together every couple of months, and what they've done is just within the last 2 weeks, they've put together over a 50-page report that talks about violence in our rural communities and how to use the Violence Against Women Act and special tribal criminal jurisdiction to address that issue.”

Under the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022, it stood up this special Alaska Tribal Public Safety Advisory Committee that had sat dormant for a couple of years, but within the last year and a half especially, it's been reinvigorated. There's been a number of tribal leaders, victim services, community leaders that have come together every couple of months, and what they've done is just within the last 2 weeks, they've put together over a 50-page report that talks about violence in our rural communities and how to use the Violence Against Women Act and special tribal criminal jurisdiction to address that issue. So there's been a tremendous amount of work that has been done just within the last couple weeks even.
