Anchorage officials told the Assembly Legislative Committee on Thursday that both House and Senate defense bills would convey about 50 acres of JBER land next to the Anchorage Regional Landfill for a waste-to-energy plant. The House version orders the transfer. The Senate version only directs study.

Anchorage's $1.79 million Community Development Block Grant will be adjusted by how fast the city adds housing starting in fiscal 2029 under the federal housing law enacted July 10. Assembly member Anna Brawley asked Thursday whether a hard place to build gets punished for trying.
