I was one of the votes that voted for the gondola, but the 5 of us, because it was a 5-4 split, saw the handwriting on the wall with Eagle Crest. That was totally the general manager and the board at the time. And, uh, we grasped at the straw trying to save Eagle Crest.
The Juneau Assembly voted Tuesday to terminate the Eaglecrest gondola revenue-sharing agreement with Goldbelt and appropriate $12.2 million to repay the corporation, ending a project deemed financially infeasible after cost overruns.
