From the transcript
I mentioned before that I have a master's in anthropology, and that really taught me the importance of local control. We really do know our homes best, and so we need to have voices that are speaking up for our homes. The Board of Fish and Game, we need to ensure that we have representation on there and co-management, maybe having meetings in villages so that even urban voices can understand and experience what the needs are in our rural areas. I think it's important that the nominees for the board are questioned for their appreciation and understanding of traditional practices and knowledge We really— we want to make sure that we have people on there that are respectful and thoughtful and care because we do have a lot of urban voices and what is needed in Anchorage is very different than what is needed in Galena. I do think that we should treat tribal knowledge as a government entity and not just have public comment sections when it comes to projects.
