I'm worried that this project is being used to bully Alaska Native corporations and other entities into development that is so harmful. The supplemental EIS stated there should be no action taken due to the irreversible harm done to the environment and ecosystem. As Alaska Native people, we are stewards of the land, and to see this road being forced through when we know it will cause harm is frankly, uh, it's racist. And I am deeply, deeply concerned that this is moving forward without taking these into consideration and having very frank discussions The road itself, the mines that are currently proposed won't even pay for the road. It doesn't make financial sense.
