From the transcript
We saw the critical role of the National Guard during the response to Typhoon Haiyan, and in conversations I had with leaders in the region, we discussed how reopening armories and returning Guard units to rural communities that want them would strengthen disaster response But revitalizing the National Guard units throughout rural Alaska would also provide training, leadership, mentorship, and a sense of purpose for young Alaskans right at home. We need to revitalize the Alaska National Guard in rural Alaska, and that's exactly what my bill, the Alaska National Guard Rural Community Revival Act, will do.
