Wasilla man, 83, arrested after allegedly pulling handgun on EMTs

Two friends and two emergency medical technicians fled a Wasilla home late on July 18 after the man they came to help produced a handgun, Alaska State Troopers said.

Troopers arrested Frank Bird, 83, of Wasilla on July 26 on a warrant charging four counts of third-degree assault. He was remanded to Mat-Su Pre-Trial. He is presumed innocent.

Bird called a friend that night and said he had fallen and hit his head, according to the trooper dispatch. The friend called Mat-Su Borough EMS and went to the house. Troopers received the request for assistance at 11:15 p.m.

Bird, who had been drinking, became upset that EMS was called and demanded that everyone leave, troopers said. All four, the two friends and the two EMTs, left the residence in fear of "imminent serious physical injury by means of the handgun."
