Wasilla hunter cited after moose meat lacked evidence of sex near Eureka

Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited a 30-year-old Wasilla man on Friday, Sept. 4, after contacting him in the Eureka area and determining that the moose he had harvested no longer carried evidence of sex naturally attached to the meat, according to a Department of Public Safety dispatch. He was hunting under a general season harvest in an antler- and sex-restricted hunt, troopers said, and received a citation with an optional court appearance through the Glennallen Court. The charge is an accusation; he is presumed innocent.

Alaska hunting regulations require evidence of sex to remain naturally attached to the meat in hunts limited to one sex. The dispatch does not give a citation amount or a court date.

The account is entirely the agency's, and the dispatch includes no response from the man. The Department of Public Safety posted the incident 18 days after the contact.
